As a Mid City Merchant situated on Government Street we have taken great interest in the plans underway to revamp the streetscape and travel lane assignments for this important corridor. This began with a “Better Block” project by CPEX situated west of the intersection of Government with South Acadian Thruway at the Ogden shopping center. The Mayor’s Office endorsed the plan and, because Government Street is a State Highway (LA 73) the DOTD has been involved in preparing schematic plans. We are excited that tonight those schematic plans and ideas – including a round-a-bout at Lobdell Ave. – will be presented to the public. The Department of Transportation and Development released these plans to the media in advance of this meeting by posting them on their website as large Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files. Knowing that large PDF files can be cumbersome, Franklin’s urban planner James Taylor, AICP took the initiative to convert these high resolution graphic files to a mobile-friendly format which allows even smartphone users to pan and zoom around the images at full resolution.
